HCI

Project: Design of an interactive system

The goal of the project is to practice User Centered Design (as explained during the lectures) for building interactive systems. You have to imagine, design, prototype and evaluate an interactive system.

Please check this web site frequently for updates and additional information. Feel free to send e-mails to your coach for any explanation needed.

The project is conducted in groups of 3 students. You will have to explain your internal organization.

Choosing a project's topic

The topic is “moderated”: you get to choose the topic of you project, but a professor must validate it. Please, carefully read the advices for choosing a topic.

Topic moderation happens during the "Office hours". Make an appointment with a professor and come with two or more topic ideas. Projects that have been validated appear on the Groups page.

Expected work

Read the details of the expected work.

Be careful. Deadlines are coming quickly and the schedule of the semester offers no possibility to postpone them. You must work regularly and efficiently from the start of the project.

Evaluation of the project

The mark integrates the quality of the two documents (RD and ESD) and the grade of the defense, which covers the prototype and the evaluation of the HCI. Please note that this is the only mark of the HCI module. There is no written exam.

Deliverables

Files are returned by e-mail attached files to your project supervisor.
Files must be in acrobat (.pdf), postscript (.ps), ASCII text (.txt) or MS Word (.doc) format.

Name your files according to the login of one of the team members and add the extension “_rd” for the requirements document or “_esd” for the external specifications document. For example: fberard_rd.pdf, fberard_esd.pdf.

Defenses

Read carefully the advices for the defense.

It is your duty to make an appointment with your supervisor for the defense of your project. It is not demanded to make a slide presentation (Powerpoint), but you have to prepare what you will present. Defense last for 30 minutes (plan for 15 minutes of presentation, and 15 minutes for feedback and questions). The defenses are done in a computer room. You can present your prototype on a computer of the school, or on your own computer. In the case of your computer, it must be running with the prototype already launched when you enter the room for the defense.
